CORNING - Kjellen, Eileen May Totten, age 79, of Corning, NY, passed away Friday, April 17, 1998 at Arnot Ogden Hospital. Eileen was born Novebmer 17, 1918 to Daniel and Myrtle Edger Totten, and married Rudolph Kjellen on May 10, 1952.
She retired from Corning Hospital in 1970. She was a member and past President of the American Legion Auxiliary #1612 in Big Flats, member and past President of the Greater Corning Area Senior Citizens Club, member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary #524, Women of the Moose Chapter 0326, Corning Area Women’s Club, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, New York State Federation of Home Bureau, and Past Chairman of th Chapter “The Helping Hands” , and a member of the Senior Citizens Center Advisory Council. She also worked as an inspector on the election board, and was a member of The Assembly of God Church in Corning.
Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law: Rhonda and Timothy Spencer of Corning, sisters: Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Manning of Corning, Mrs. Bernard (Helen Jean) Roe of Elkland, PA, and Mrs. Wilton (Mary Lou) Collum of Millerton, PA; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Shirley Totten of Houghton Lake, MI, and Mrs. Thelma Totten of Montour Falls; and aunt Margaret Edger of Elmira; several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Anna Salazar of Corning. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph in 1995, and brothers, Lionel and Daniel Totten.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., on Monday, April 20 from 6 to 8 PM, and on Tuesday April 21 from 11 to 12 (noon). The Funeral Service will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, at the conclusion of the visitation (noon).
Memorials in Eileen’s name may be directed to the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA Animal Shelter, or the charity of one’s choice. The Interment will follow in Coopers Cemetery, Coopers Plains, NY.
