MONTICELLO, Iowa -- Dorothy Virginia Tucker, 85, of Monticello, died Saturday evening, Nov. 24, 2007, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Cascade (Iowa) Cemetery.

She was born on Dec. 12, 1921, in Placid, rural Epworth, daughter of Edward and Anna Tucker. Dorothy received her education in the rural schools near her home.

She farmed with her parents and her brother, Melvin, near Epworth, Cascade and Worthington. In 1965, they purchased a farm in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, near Monticello. Dorothy and Melvin retired from farming in 1974 and moved to Monticello. She had been a resident of the care center since August 2001.

Dorothy enjoyed visiting with family, reading and cooking.

Surviving are a sister, Luella Sternhagen, of Hopkinton; three brothers, Melvin, of Dubuque, and Eldon (Inez) and Kenneth, both of Hopkinton; a sister-in-law, Doris Tucker, of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elmer and Joseph; two sisters, Viola Moriarity and Grace Sternhagen-Miller; two sisters-in-law, Vivian and Virginia Tucker; and five brothers-in-law, John Moriarity, Frank Miller, William and Leo Sternhagen and Joe Whitfield.
