Sharon M. Ballenger, age 75, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away March 29, 2013, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

Sharon was born December 22, 1937, in Stamford, Texas, to the late Jesse and Leola (Herron) Tucker. She graduated Rule, Texas High School in 1956 and earned a degree in elementary education from Hardin-Simmons University in 1960.

On February 14, 1960, Sharon was united into marriage with William A. Ballenger. To this union three children were born.

Sharon furthered her education at U.N.O., earning her Master's Degree in counseling in 1976. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Sharon was a mental health therapist, owning Counseling for the 90's and was a guidance counselor for Roncalli and Marian High Schools in Omaha, Neb., as well as Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. She was recognized professionally by the Governor of Nebraska for her work in mental health and counseling and received many awards for her years of leadership and service.

Sharon was a member of First Baptist Church, Youth Group leader; member of PEO and Service League.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded by her infant son; and stepfather, Willard Cox.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 53 years, William A. "Bill" Ballenger; son, Jeff Ballenger and wife, Cristy, all of Council Bluffs; daughter, Carrie Conley and husband, Mike, of Coahoma, Texas; grandchildren, Liz and Megan Conley, Jonathan, Alexis and Nicolas Ballenger; brothers, E.A. "Sonny" Bounds and wife, Ann, of Canyon Lake, Texas, Steve Cox and wife, Darla, of Abilene, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
