Dorothy I. Brown, 80, of Akron died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Services were held on Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Fred Penner officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was born April 13, 1918, in Akron, the daughter of W.P. and Cora (Frager) Tucker.

She graduated from Akron High School in 1935. She attended Western Union College and taught in rural schools in the Akron area.
She married Arden Brown in August 1939. The couple lived in Akron, where she was employed as a substitute teacher and later worked in the family businesses.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, P.E.O., Audubon Society and Nature Conservancy and Akron Friendship and Service Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Carol Brown of Corvallis, Ore.; two sons and their wives, Bob and Susan of Akron and Rich and Kristie of Sioux City; two sisters, Ruby Brown and Virginia and her husband, Hugh Swift, all of Akron; two brothers, Robert Tucker and his wife, Harriet, of Alamogordo, N.M., and Ellis Tucker of Akron; five grandchildren, Wendi Bogard and Michael, Chad, Courtney and Rachel Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Emery Tucker; and a sister, Grace Blankenburg.

Pallbearers were Michael, Chad and Larry Brown, Gary Tucker, Eldon Heeren and Dick Davis.
