Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, August 31, 2010:

Mary Margaret Adkins, 93, of Hallsville died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

A celebration of her life will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Hallsville United Methodist Church in Hallsville. The Rev. Joe Crews will officiate at the ceremony. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Hallsville. A brief graveside service will follow the service Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born Aug. 16, 1917, in Stephens, she was the daughter of the late J.E. Turner and Dot (Jacobs) Turner. Margaret married Floyd Andrew Adkins on March 18, 1939, and he preceded her in death June 8, 2006.

Margaret was proud to be a 1936 Kewpie graduate of Hickman High School in Columbia. Margaret mainly enjoyed being a wife and homemaker. She did, however, work at J.C. Penney, Speed-O-Type clerical service and as a cook at Hallsville R-IV School District throughout her early years. Her real enjoyment was ringing doorbells as an AVON representative, where she achieved many awards and honors. She loved interacting with and helping people. Margaret lived the past 56 years in Hallsville and was a member of the Hallsville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Don Adkins (Virginia) and Richard Adkins (Rosalind); four daughters, Phyllis Hayes (Richard), Barbara Mueller (Ralph), Sarah Wyatt (Dennis) and Cindy Driskill (Martin); 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren/great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by one son, Gene Adkins; one grandson, Michael Adkins; one great-great granddaughter, Dannika Carlisle; six brothers; and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Christina Stixrud and her staff and all the SICU and palliative care staff of Boone Hospital Center for providing such tender and loving care. Thank you, too, to all the wonderful friends and family who have expressed sympathy and provided offerings of food for the family.

Angels rejoice today as they receive one so loving and special!
