Wife of Samuel Banfield.
Their children were Delia Ann and John Addison.
Age: 68yrs
Note:
The name on the stone is BANDFIELD, but all records list it as Banfield, which is the name everyone will be looking for.
Note:
Lancaster records show that Samuel Banfield married Dorcas Twombly on Apr 29, 1823 in Lancaster. Julia D. Banfield, born in 1823, lists Samuel & Lucy (Twombly) Banfield as her parents on her death certificate in 1897. A Samuel E. Banfield, born about 1824 in Lancaster, named Samuel & Dorcas as his parents when he married Nancy Willey in 1859 Lancaster. I can't find them after this marriage.
Samuel & Lucy's children Delia & John were born in 1831 and 1834. There is no record of their marriage. Julia Banfield is buried in her sister Delia Cummings's family plot.
Was there a Dorcas Twombly? Or was this actually Lucy? In 1850 Lucy lived in Amos Balch's house with children Delia & John (no Samuel). In 1860 she lived in daughter Delia (Banfield) Cummings household (again no Samuel). In 1860 Nancy Willey's brother Wellington was also living in the Cummings household.
There is no death record for Lucy, Dorcas, or Samuel.
None of these records on Samuel, Dorcas, and Lucy make any sense, along with the fact that Samuel was never in a census. Did Dorcas die shortly after Julia & Samuel were born, so Julia listed Lucy as the mother who raised her? Did Samuel die before the 1850 census or did they divorce?
In 1830 Lancaster, NH (transcribed as Kilkenny) there is a Samuel Banfield with 2 young children (male & female) and no wife. This may back up the idea that Dorcas had died by 1830... and then he married Lucy.
NOTE:
The Dorcas Twombly mentioned in this memorial is NOT the MRS. Dorcas Twombly in memorila #148934980. That is the wife of Joseph Twombly, born 1771 died 1833. IF anything she might have been the mother or aunt of the Dorcas Twombly who married Samuel Banfield.
