Rita Botting (Twombly)
December 9, 2015

Rita (Twombly) Botting was born in Madison, NH on October 27, 1927 at the home of her parents, Albion Leavitt and Eva (Tyler) Twombly. She died at her home in Madison on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, 88 years later.

When Rita was a small girl, she woke her older sister and life-long best friend, Laura, saying: “Babies. I just love them! When I grow up, I am going to have a dozen of them!” Few of us fulfill our childhood dreams, but she did. In life Rota was never happier that when she was holding a baby, and she had an aura of calm that each of her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren knew as she held them and stroked their backs until the melted first into restfulness, then sleep. So it is that we hope Rita now finds peace and rest in the arms of her dear departed, who she believed she would see again, restored to health and happiness.

Rita was predeceased by her husband, James Botting, and her subsequent partner. Llewellyn Howard. She was the last of eight siblings; Raymond Twombly of Belfast, ME, Laura Twombly and Jennie Lovering of Madison, NH, Albion Twombly, Jr., of Standish, ME, Barbara Drew of Conway, NH, Howard Twombly of Chatham, MA and James Twombly of Tamworth, NH. She also leaves a much loved sister0in-law, Faith Twombly of Chatham, MA.

She was predeceased by her son, Arthur Botting and leaves eleven other children to mourn her passing; Donna Wiggin of Rochester, NH; Debra Botting of Tavernier, FL; Laura Botting of Conway, NH; William Botting of Walpole, NH; Susan Lowd, of Conway, NH; Kathy Botting of Conway, NH; Tracy Botting and her husband, Dr. Robert Goodby of Stoddard, NH; Jean Devoss and her husband Michael of St Mary’s GA; Wendy Holmes and her husband Thomas of Center Conway, NH; Jeffrey Howard and his wife Melanie of West Baldwin, ME and Michele Howard-Bundy and her husband Thomas Bundy of Brownfield, ME.

Her 23 grandchildren are Heidi and Arthur Wiggin; Victoria Bolduc; Angela and Alician Chute; Michael and Jeremy Cox; Trisha Armelin; Jessica Shepa; Sandra Boucher; Harley Lowd; Andrew Sevary; Tiarnna Lloyd; Douglas Goodwin; Jammie Graves; Sarah Giacomo; Nathan Rivard; Nikol Devoss; David and Meredith James; Alanna Hurley and Shelby, Savannah and Megan Howard.

She also leaves 39 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren, as well as many much-loved and loving nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside ceremony Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 11:00am, at the Gilman Cemetery in Madison, NH, where she will rest next to her son Arthur and near her beloved parents and sister, Laura. A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those wishing to honor Rita’s life make a donation to the Mt. Washington Valley Visiting Nurse, Home care and Hospice, North Conway, NH or the Madison Rescue Squad, Madison, NH in her name.
