Eleanor V. Abel died on Friday (9/1/1989) in the Highland Nursing Home.

She was born in Cohoes on March 10, 1908, daughter of George B. and Marion Johnson Vail.

She married William H. Abel of Mechanicville, on July 10, 1935, in Cohoes. He died in 1983.

She was graduated from Albany State College in 1929 and taught high-school English in Potsdam from 1952 to 1955. She then served as head of the English department at Lansingburg High School, Troy, from 1955 until her retirement in 1972.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Eleanor) Converse, Hopkinton, and Mrs. C. H. (Dorothy) VanSchooneveld, France; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two nephews.

A son, James Michael, died in infancy.
