Esther Maxine Coultis was born August 19, 1917 in Richland, Shawnee County, KS to William H. and Esther M. Land-Coultis. After graduating from Berryton HS in 1938 she married Willis S. Vail, her High School sweetheart. After his service in the US Navy during WW II, they lived in Kansas City and later Independence, MO. In 1962 they relocated to Seattle, WA, where Willis preceded her in death in 2003. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 1998.
She was the mother of two children, Claudia J. Vail-Goss and Loren T. Vail, born in 1947 and 1952, in Kansas City, MO. Esther worked for Skyway luggage before retiring in 1979. As a homemaker Esther took pride in her cooking and loved to prepare fresh bread, desserts, and her favorite recipes for family gatherings. She especially loved preparing cinnamon rolls for her two granddaughters.
Esther is survived by a sister, Marguerite Kahler, in Topeka, KS; a brother, William M. Coultis, Topeka, KS; her daughter, Claudia Vail-Goss, of Vancouver, WA; her son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Lori Vail of Bonney Lake, WA; her granddaughters, Katie and Shannon Vail, of Bonney Lake, WA.
A graveside service will be held Sat., Dec. 11th at 10:00 a.m. at the family plot in the Buckley Cemetery, Buckley, WA. Weeks Funeral Home in Buckley will be officiating. Remembrances should be sent to the charity of your choice. Please sign the online guest book at www.weeksfuneralhomes.com
