Mrs. Sammie Lee Vann Darty September 28, 1934- July 31, 2014 Phenix City,, Alabama- Funeral services for Mrs. Sammie Lee Vann Darty will be 1:00EDT Saturday August 9, 2014 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with interment following. Visitation is 1-7pm Friday according to Battle & Battle Funeral Home. Mrs. Sammie Lee Vann Darty, a most gracious lady, was born in Pittsview, Alabama but reared in Fort Mitchell, Alabama by her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam and Alberta Grier Vann. Sammie was a splendid woman of great intellect and a big heart. Realizing the importance of education, her parents escorted her off to Alabama State College after completing Mt. Olive High School in 1955. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Alabama State College in 1959. She also attend Tuskegee Institute to work on her Masters of Science in Elementary Education and completed it at Troy State University in 1978. Mrs. Vann-Darty spent her entire career in education, beginning as a teacher at Mt. Olive Elementary/High School. From there she went on to Ladonia Elementary were she touched students' lives for over as an educator for 38 years. Mrs. Vann-Darty was an Eastern Star member of the Chapter of Ruth B. Cobbs (Prince Hall). She accepted Christ into her life at an early age at Bethel AME Church, Hwy 165. She later joined Mt. Olive Baptist. She was married to James Lee Darty. Their union was blessed with one son Cedric Darrell Darty. She was proceeded in death by her parents Sam and Alberta Grier Vann and a devoted Aunt Alice Williams. Mrs. Vann-Darty is survived by her husband James Darty, loving and devoted son, Cedric Darrell Darty; brother -in-laws: William Darty (Berther), Johnnie Darty, Jr., and Andrew Darty; sister-in-laws: Georgiann Darty, Virgian Darty, Rosie L. Browder, Virgel Darty and Blanchie L. Anthony, a devoted cousin, Debra Williams; cousins: Bertha Diggs and Elizabeth Jefferson, Lola Littlejohn, Karim Rasheed, and Saleemah Rasheed, Carrie Stephens, Gary, IN, Nellie Jackson (Tot), a godson, Gerry Strong (Tracy) a devoted friend, Gwendolyn Allmond Lewis and host of other relatives and friends.
