Graduated with honors from UCLA. Jack attended University of California San Francisco Medical School, and practiced orthopaedic surgery on the Westside of Los Angeles for 25 years. Jack was a man of great intellect and loyalty who loved writing poetry and studying ancient Greek. He was an accomplished guitarist. He loved collecting hats, and antique maps, canes and medical books. He was a consummate professional physician who was beloved by his patients. His playfulness, evinced by his smiling eyes and warmth, was commensurate to his seriousness and devotion to achieving the most out of life. He leaves behind a legacy of truth, wisdom and humility, and will be terribly missed. There will be a profound void in our lives forever. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife , loving children, and two beautiful granddaughters. Private services were held at Mount Sinai Memorial Parks. Donations in his name may be made at www.alz.org (search the Judy Fund).
Published in the Los Angeles Times on June 15, 2010.
[Names of surviving family members omitted.]

My office utilized the services of Dr. Vandernoot in the 1990s for Independent Medical Examinations in defending insurance lawsuits. One day, we could not get a hold of Dr. Vandernoot. After weeks of trying, we sent someone to his office on Olympic Blvd. to pick up some medical records, and found his office empty. No one on the premises knew what had happened to him.

If was only recently that I discovered the above obituary.

Rest in peace, Dr. Vandernoot.
