Elizabeth was my "step grandmother"...a kind, sweet, gentle, serene, loving woman who was generous to a fault and well suited to compliment her brilliant career as a hospital nurse. She worked at the (former) Woman's hospital in New York and married my grandfather, Mr. Edward Phillips Walker on September 30, 1924. The couple moved to Watertown, MA, where Mr. Walker worked for the Shawmut Bank for his entire working career.

Elizabeth had female health issues, particularly multiple leiomyomata of the uterus. When she underwent corrective surgery, she contracted peritonitis aggravated by myocarditis and died during recovery a week later.

My great grandmother ever lamented her daughter in law's death and on his deathbed, among my grandfather's final requests, was he asked for Elizabeth...in 1976, after having been remarried for 46 years to a second wife.

After his death, we found this picture of Elizabeth...still in his top drawer. It seemed his heart was ever true to his first love.
