Jeanne Walker Bowman, a lifelong resident of Asheville entered into eternal glory on Friday, February 17, 2012. Born May 23, 1930 to Edward Walker Sr. and Dole Baird Walker, she was the youngest of 7 children, and was predeceased by brothers, Dr. Edward Walker, James (Doll) Walker and sisters, Lottie Campbell, Alma Flint and Lois Ellerson. A 1949 graduate of Stephens Lee High School, Jeanne retired from Memorial Mission Hospital after over 20 years of service. Throughout her life she was very active in the community. After graduating in the 1985 Leadership Asheville class, Jeanne became one of the founders of the Goombay Festival. She also served on The Board of Directors of the YMI Culture Center. As a charter member of the Asheville Chapter of Links Incorporated, Jeanne worked hard to make it a valuable organization for both adults and youth. In 1995 she was named Woman of the year by the Asheville chapter of American Business Women's Association (ABWA). As a member of the Basilica of Saint Lawrence, she served as a board member of Catholic Social Services and also as a Eucharistic Minister until declining health no longer allowed her to continue. For over 30 years, Jeanne celebrated monthly birthdays with 10 women known as "The Birthday Girls." From these women she received the greatest gifts of all, the gifts of love and friendship. Jeanne is survived by her husband of 59 years, Nathaniel Bowman Jr. and 4 children, Nathaniel Bowman III of Asheville, Teresa Bowman and Marye Robinson (John) of Charlotte and Gregory Bowman (Penny) of Greensboro; 3 grandchildren, Taylor Bowman, Gregory L Bowman and Nicholas Robinson. She is also survived by a sister, Elnora Quarles of Los Angeles, California, a special niece, Doraine Hines and devoted cousins, Doris Daniel of Asheville and Audrey DeLoache of San Francisco, California.

Visitation will be Monday February 20 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Hart Funeral Service .

Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Basilica of Saint Lawrence; 97 Haywood Street; Asheville, NC with burial at Violet Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Care Partners Adult Day Services, 68-A Sweeten Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28803.
