In 1852 the family emigrated from Germany to America and settled in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. He husband had a very successful Liquor business, which Anna and her daughter and son-in-law ran after his early death in 1881.

MRS. ANNA BALDES IS DEAD; REACHED AGE OF OVER 90 YEARS
Mrs. Anna Baldes, aged 93 years, a resident of this city for more than fifty years, died last night at the home, corner of Lincoln and East Northampton streets, of general debility. She was ill for more than a year. She was conscious up to the time of her death and in her last moments she requested her grandson to have the funeral on Sunday afternoon, as she always prayed that she would die in time to be buried on Sunday so that her many friends could attend the services.
Mrs. Baldes was born in Waden, Germany, October 15, 1819. February 9, 1844, she married Nicholas Baldes and came in this country in 1852. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frank Henniges, of this city; by one grandson, Frank Baldes, and nine great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
She was a devoted member of St. Nicholas R. C. Church for a great many years. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the home. Interment in St. Nicholas' cemetery. There will be a high mass of requiem celebrated in St. Nicholas;' R. C. Church at 9 o'clock Monday morning.
