Sophie Walker Lemchen, a lifelong Seattle resident, 95, died on March 4, 2009 at the Kline Galland Home after a lengthy illness.

Sophie was born in Seattle, Washington to Harry and Dora Walker on February 11, 1914. She graduated from Garfield High School.

In 1935 she married Philip Lemchen. They lived in Seattle for almost their entire married life which spanned 72 years until Phil's death in 2007.

Sophie was a kind and caring person, and a wonderful example of a wife and mother, who will be greatly missed by all. Sophie's family came before all else and she put her husband Philip, children and grandchildren first.

Sophie was a life member of and very involved in Hadassah, Council of Jewish Women, City of Hope, Brandeis, and Herzl-Ner Tamid Conservative Congregation. She also enjoyed attending the symphony, opera, theater and many classes which she did for over sixty years.

Grieving over Sophie's passing are her son Larry, his wife Beverly, grandsons Aaron (Anna), and Matthew (Leah), Sophie's daughter, Ann Marie Putter, her husband Sonny, her grandson Yoni, and her great granddaughters - Heather, Zoe, Madeline, and Lily. Sophie was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter Debra Shira Putter, her brother Mickey Walker, her sister Lillian Asher, and many family members.

In memory of Sophie, donations may be made to the Kline Galland Home, Hadassah, Brandeis, or a charity of your choice.
