ASHEVILLE - Frank Walker, 76, of 12 American Way, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at a local hospital. He was a native of McDowell County and the son of the late Howard and Edna Beam Walker. Mr. Walker was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received battle stars for Normandy, northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. He received several decorations and citations including the ETO Campaign medal with four bronze stars, Good Conduct medal and Victory medal. Mr. Walker was a retired clerk from Finkelstein's after 43 years of service. He was a member of the masons. His wife, Esther McAdams Walker, and daughter, Linda M. Walker, preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, James (Doris) Walker and Frank Walker, all of Asheville daughters, Virginia (Nathaniel) Washington, Edna W. Mapp and Anita (Lawrence) Moser, all of Asheville 14 grandchildren eight great-grandchildren several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Walker touched the lives of many by his acts of kindness and the warmth of his multimillion-dollar smile. He will be missed by all. Services will be held Tuesday at New Mount Olive Baptist Church. The Rev. Wanda Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Ray and Allen Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
