Arthur was the oldest of six children born to Issac Edward and Henna (Palo) Waltari. He married Margaret Fay (Trunk) (2nd marriage) in 1955 after the death of her first husband. No known children from this union.

Arthur Waltari

Lifelong Salem-area farmer Arthur W. Waltari, 72, died Thursday at a local nursing home after an extended illness.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Croxford & Sons Funeral Home with burial in the Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Melchert will officiate.

Waltari was born in Tracy in 1912. He attended country schools and the McCartney School in the Salem area east of Great Falls, and graduated from Great Falls High School in 1931. He then attended Billings technical school for two years and served four years in the U.S. Air Force.

After his discharge, Waltari farmed in the Salem area and married Margaret Trunk in 1955 in Great Falls. He retired in 1984.

Waltari was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1087.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, John Waltari of Choteau; a sister, Mrs. John (Elsie) Murphy of Great Falls. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
