He moved to Los Angeles in the 1920s and married Marie Andersen sometime after 1930. He enlisted in the US Army as a private on 27 Jul 1942, at the age of 42. In the mid-1950s, Herman had one of the first open heart surgeries. Herman died on January 1st, 1981, at 1 PM, at the age of 80 years, at the Hospital of the Good Samaritan on Witmer St., in Los Angeles. He had been a salesman for 20 years at Bauman Brothers, a furniture manufacturer. His last residence was listed as 330 S. Harvard Blvd., Los Angeles. He was survived by his wife, Marie.
