Otis-9 Franklin was the son of Calvin-8 Franklin "Frank" Warner and his wife Charlotte Almira Croninger.
His father, Calvin-8 joined the Civil War and was wounded in that conflict. Those wounds festered later and after 2 amputations (both legs) two years apart, Calvin died just before an arm was to be amputated, leaving Otis to be the "man of the house" and farm manager at the age of 14 in 1894. There was some mature male help in the household, though, when Jacob Croninger, Charlotte's father, moved in to stay with the family before he passed away in 1900.
