__________

Carrie was a member of the Woodman Circle of Williamston, Ingham, MI, auxiliary of the Woodmen of the World.

"Carrie divorced [Charles] Retter and he was later a guard at the Jackson Prison. She lived with a man named Stephanson [Stevenson], but I don't know if they were married. I do know she lived with another one [man] and they weren't married.

"She was a mental health-care worker in Kalamazoo, [Kalamazoo, MI], when I was a pre-teen. She was my favorite aunt because she brought me clothes and lace. Some of the patients could crochet. Later she worked in Ypsilanti [Washtenaw, MI], when a new mental hospital was built.

"She met a lady there, Mabel Bruff, and they were close friends and used to come visit my folks. A leg was amputated due to an injury when she stumbled on the rockers of a rocking chair. She also had erysipelas and lost her hair. She was cured of this fatal disease due to newly available medication.

"She [Carrie] came home to us [Ilah's parents or Ilah's own home; unclear] and stayed until her death."
