A veteran of WWI, he went on to become one of the best of the pulp fiction artists. By 1940 he had left the pulps and was working for higher-paying publications such as the Saturday Eevening Post. During WWII he created several patriotic posters and after the war he produced hunting and sporting illustrations. He died of a heart attack at sixty two.
