Lula M. Asquith
BELLAIRE — Lula M. Asquith, 97, of Bellaire, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. She was born June 25, 1912, in Central Lake, the daughter of Robert and Nettie (Vance) Watson.

Lula grew up in Central Lake and graduated from Central Lake High School in 1930.

She was a member of the Eastport Baptist Church.

Lula owned Asquith Cabins on Benway Lake for 31 years. She retired to Florida but continued to summer in Central Lake.

On Feb. 22, 1939, in Detroit, she married Henry Asquith, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ivan; and her sisters, Lucille Peebles, Avabelle Carpenter and twin sister, Lila Carpenter.

She is survived by her children, James Asquith of Central Lake, Keith (Carol) Asquith of Shelby Twp. and Janet Sue Asquith of Lewisville, Texas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, with one on the way; brother, Kenneth (Jackie) Watson; sister, Doris Danielson; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Eastport Baptist Church, with Pastor Jerry Troyer officiating. A luncheon will follow. Interment will be in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Twp. The family will receive friends today, Sept. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
