Injuries Fatal to Chester Weier
Chester Weier, 41, of 300 Buffalo street, father of eight children, died
Saturday night at the Holy Family hospital of injuries suffered Thursday,
when he was struck by a magnetized 2,000 pound ball, being swung by a crane
at the Muchin yards on South 11th street.
The workman was handling an acetylene torch inside a large tank, according
to the police, and the operator of the crane failed to see Weier bending over
in the tank. The ball struck the tank and then glanced off Weier's back. He
sustained broken ribs and collapsed lungs.
Funeral services for Mr. Weier will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Urbanek
and Schlei funeral home. The Rev. Roland Schwandt of the First Lutheran church
will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
He was born at Ormsby, Wis., in 1909 and in 1931 married Miss Lucille Dassey at
Menominee, Mich. A short time later the couple located in this city. He was
employed at the Manitowoc Ship Building company and in recent years by the
Muchin yards. He was a member of the Eagles.
Survivors are his wife; four daughters, Agnes, Edith, Lucille and Charlotte of
this city; four sons, Robert, William, and Chester Jr., and Wade, all of this
city; mother, Mrs. Irving Seiler of this city; a half brother, Irving Seiler
Jr., of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Giljham Hutchinson and Miss Edith Seiler
of this city and Mrs. Walter Drumm of Denmark, Brown county.
Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of services Tuesday.
