Catherine was a dearly beloved aunt and great aunt. We are deeply grateful to her for all of her genealogical work on family history.
***************************
Catherine Genevieve Welch was born on March 24th, 1905, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, to William H. Welch and Catherine (Kate) Kirlin Welch.

Catherine was baptized on April 23rd, 1905, in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Missouri Valley.
Her godparents were Catherine and Dennis Kirlin. [I believe Dennis Kirlin was Catherine's mother Kate Kirlin Welch's youngest brother Dennis (1884-1968), who later married Marie Dolan in Cook County, Illinois, and I believe Catherine Kirlin was Kate's first cousin Catherine Kirlin (1878-1963), daughter of Michael Kirlin and Mary Donahue, who later married Henry James Smith in Tekoa, Whitman County, Washington State.]

On June 25, 1945, Catherine Welch and Jess Winfred Armstrong were married in Missouri Valley, Iowa, by Rev. P. R. O'Donnell.
Catherine's sister Nell Welch Antrim and her husband James H. Antrim were witnesses.
Catherine and Jess did not have children. Jess had two daughters from his first marriage, Winfred and Buryl, but Winfred was already deceased when he married Catherine.

Nieces and nephews remember that Aunt Catherine and Uncle Jess never missed a birthday and always included a monetary gift in the card. Also that Jess and Catherine raised beautiful swans and peacocks on their property.

Written by Catherine herself in 1982:
"Catherine (1905) worked for brother Bill after highschool, and in other offices, including serving as deputy to Margaret Hansen as clerk of the district court. In 1934, William P. with P.J. Morrow established an abstract and insurance company and Catherine worked there as abstracter, becoming a partner in the venture. She was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1937. In 1945, she married Jess Armstrong of Logan. Jess' daughter, Buryl, and her husband, Homer Wiseman live in Bellevue, Nebraska....Jess and Catherine live in Logan, Iowa."

Catherine was widowed when Jess died in 1983. They had been married for 38 years.

Obituary from Catherine's funeral card:
