Dolores V. Welk Byers
Dolores V. (Welk) Byers, 72, of Conestoga, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, January 31, 2010. Born May 8, 1937 in Millersville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph S. and Kathryn M. (Munson) Welk. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Byers, Sr. on August 4, 2001.
Mrs. Byers was a member of Safe Harbor United Methodist Church, where she was an active member that volunteered for many activities. Dolores was a 1956 graduate of East Lampeter High School. Every year, she enjoyed participating for the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk.
Mrs. Byers is survived by four sons: Robert F. Byers, Jr. of Kentucky, Larry J. Byers of Lancaster, Joseph B. Byers of York, and Brian J. Byers of Conestoga; two daughters: Diane Wallace of East Petersburg and Loraine W., wife of William Brenchley of New Providence; nine grandchildren: Tara, Stephen, Hope, Brandon, Ethan, Sarah and Jessica Byers and Amber and Joel Brenchley; a great grandson: Isaac; five sisters: Lucy Ames, Kathryn Newcomer, Joyce Kay Peters, Joan Kohler, and Nancy Maysilles; and a brother: Harry Welk. In addition to her husband, Dolores was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Jane Trahnovsky, and a brother, John Welk.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Gundel Funeral Home, 3225 Main St., Conestoga, with Rev. Donald G. Sweimler officiating. Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Pequea Brethren in Christ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. The Gundel Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
