FAIRBURY - Agarita "Rita" Maurine Vaughan, 80, of Fairbury died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2001) at OSF Saint James Hospital, Pontiac.
Her graveside inurnment service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury, with a service by the Fairbury Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary. The Rev. Max Borah will officiate. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or the American Heart Association.
She was born July 29, 1921, at Indian Grove Township, Livingston County, a daughter of Clarence Martin and Clara Magdalena Fanny Schlicker Wessels. She was married to Harry Ray Thornton from 1941 to 1951. She later married Jerold Henry Vaughan on Aug. 24, 1973, in Fairbury. He survives.
One brother; one sister; one son, Terry Thornton; and one son-in-law, John Teravainen, preceded her in death.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairbury; Fairbury VFW auxiliary; Chenoa American Legion auxiliary; and past president of the March of Dimes, Fairbury. She served on the Livingston County Home Extension board of directors and had been a Den Mother for the Cubs Scouts.
