Johnny was the youngest of 3 children born to John David Love Whitaker & Cornelia Susan Ingraham born in Como, Mississippi. Like his parents and siblings, Johnny played a variety of musical instruments.

The family moved to Memphis & on 24 Nov 1921 Johnny married Vivian Fay Mason (1901 TN). Shirley Mason Whitaker was born in 1924. By the 1930 Census Johnny lived with his parents who had a boarder named, Ida Westphal. Johnny & Vivian divorced and he married Ida after 1930. They had no children. Per Shirley's obituary Vivian had remarried a Mr. Campbell.

Uncle Johnny & Aunt Ida always had a smile on their faces & were very loving. He played the flute and piccolo in the church orchestra with his brother, Whit.

John Lee (error) Whitaker: Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Memphis Funeral Home on Union with burial in Elmwood. Mr. Whitaker, 79, a retired wholesale candy dealer, died Saturday night at him home at 400 South Highland.
