Her parents are unknown and she is not found on any Census before 1930 as a boarder in the home of John David Love Whitaker & Cornelia Susan Ingraham. (Census report that she was born in Florida.) Shortly after 1930 Ida married John Love Whitaker. They had no children. She was a little "sweetheart," always smiling and warm to her step-great-grandnieces.

Mrs. Ida E. Whitaker, 81, of 400 South Highland, wife of John L. Whitaker and retired department manager at Lowenstein's, died Thursday at Shelby County Hospital. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. today at Memphis Funeral Home with burial in Elmwood. Source: Memphis Commercial Appeal
