John Pinkney Whitaker, carpenter and cabinet maker of 30 East Bodley, died at his home yesterday morning from a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Whitaker, 74, had been in ill health seven years. He was born at Saltillo, Miss., and came to Memphis in 1922 from Houston, Miss. He previously had lived in Tupelo. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He leaves his wife; three sons, C.W. Whitaker and J. B. Whitaker of Memphis and L.D. Whitaker of Atoka, Tenn.; five brothers, The Rev. E.L. Whitaker, pastor of the Seventh Avenue Church of Christ, H.C. Whitaker and S.B. Whitaker, also of Memphis, Seab Whitaker of Sheffield and C.F. Whitaker of Houston, Miss., and two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Price and Mrs. A.J. Holder of Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the McKeller Avenue Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Albert Holland. Whitaker of Houston, Miss., S.B. Whitaker of Corinth, Miss., C.B. Whitaker of Sheffield, Ala., Cooper Whitaker, Mrs. Molly Holder, Mrs. Annie Price and the Rev. E.L. Whitaker, all of this city. Funeral will take place from the Spencer-Sturla memorial Chapel, 1745 Union Avenue, this (Tuesday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Services conducted by the Rev. Albert Holland will be held at the McKellar Avenue Church of Christ at 2 o'clock. Friends invited. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
