Joseph Preston Whitaker of 405 North Garland died at 11:45 yesterday morning at Baptist Hospital after a heart attack. He was 76. Mr. Whitaker had been a salesman for Southland Paper Co. at 835 Bellevue for the past 11 years. Born at Anniston, Ala., he moved to Memphis at an early age. He was a vestryman at St. James Episcopal Church for about 25 years. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Trezevant Lockhart Whitaker; a brother, Edward Whitaker of the North Garland address, and two sisters, Mrs. J.O. Broome of Birmingham and Mrs. Walter Beaton of Corsicana, Texas. Services will be at 3 tomorrow afternoon at St. James Episcopal Church. burial will be in Elmwood with Memphis Funeral Home in charge.
