MRS. KATHERINE WHITAKER MASON, 88, of Memphis, TN, died Monday at Allen Morgan Nursing Center. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Elmwood. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. Mrs. Mason attended the old West Tennessee Normal School and was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, past president of the Women of the Church, past chairman of the altar society. She was a former Sunday School teacher and former adviser of the Intermediate Youth Fellowship and had sung in the choir. She was a member of Les Libres and the Arts and Garden Club. She was a Red Cross Gray Lady at Memphis Naval Air Station at Millington during World War II. The widow of Alfred D. Mason, she leaves a sister Mrs. Evelyn Whitaker Clark of Memphis, a niece who cared for her Mrs. Frances Clark Kauffman of Memphis, and several other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial be sent to the University of Tennessee Memphis, Vanderbilt University, Presbytery of Memphis, Metropolitan Interfaith Association.
