Mr. Whitaker, who was 63, died at 6:45 a.m. yesterday in St. Joseph Hospital after a short illness. A carpenter, he was born in Calhoun County, Mississippi, and moved to Memphis in 1939. He was a member of City View Baptist Church. Mr. Whitaker leaves his wife, Mrs. Mabel Hardin Whitaker; two daughters, Mrs. Elise Melvin of 2194 Long and Mrs. Bobbie Worton of 4658 Hodge; a son, Elvin D. Whitaker of Jacksonville, FLorida; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie B. Odom of Memphis and Mrs. Mentie Meinert of Michie, Tennessee; two brothers, Jim Frank Whitaker and Burt Whitaker, both of Michie; 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
