COOKEVILLE — Funeral services for Alta Mae (Whitaker) Brewer, 88, of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Algood City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. today Tuesday, Feb. 26, and after 7 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Alta Mae (Whitaker) Brewer passed away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab at Masters in Algood.
She was born April 24, 1924, to the late Bill and Nancy Ann (Sparks) Whitaker.
She lived her life as of Proverbs 31, a virtuous woman. She was always giving and doing for others. She made more than 150 quilt tops, which she gave to family and friends. She was widely known for her chess pies, which she took to church gatherings and to friends and family.
Her family includes two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Edith Free of Fortville, Ind., and Martha Ann (Beecher) Underwood of Algood; a son and fiancee, Paul Lynn Brewer and Ashley Williams of Cookeville; eight grandchildren and spouses, Rebecca Ann (Brian) Ireton, Jason (Dusty) Smith, Jeff (Tiffney) Smith, Duane (Marlene) Underwood, Scott (Jennifer) Underwood, Jennifer (Daniel) Sullivan, Joshua (Laci) Brewer and Amanda (Todd) Rawlston; and great-grandchildren Brandon Ireton, Brooklyn Ireton, Levi (Holli) Underwood, Beth (and fiance Tyler Revalee) Underwood, Kylee Smith, Altah Smith, Issac Sullivan, Megan Underwood, Kadi Brewer and Jake and Delaney Rawlston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Brewer (whom she married on Sept. 9, 1942);four brothers, Jeff, Arvil, Gar and Willie Whitaker; and four sisters, Ada Johnson, Abbie Conley, Avo Bryant and Alcie Bohannon.
Pallbearers will be Duane and Scott Underwood, Jason and Jeff Smith, Josh Brewer, Levi Underwood, Brandon Ireton, Issac Sullivan and Jake Rawlston.
Bro. James Haynes will officiate at the services.
