Retired government secretary Helen Barnard, 91, of Puryear died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at the residence of a niece, Rebecca (Dwight) Hordyk in Puryear.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memphis Funeral Home.
Eric White will officiate. Burial will follow Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
Chosen as pallbearers are Dwight Hordyk, Bill Doty, Tim Armour, Richard and Jamie Rector and Randy Harbur.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Armour, George Moseley and Howard Doty.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Ridgeway Funeral Home and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Memphis Funeral Home.
Born in Memphis on Jan. 3, 1918, she was a daughter of Albert J. and Virginia Lumm White, now both deceased.
She was married on July 19, 1944, to Robert Barnard, who died July 2, 1998.
She retired as a secretary for a defense depot government plant in Memphis.
She also leaves four nieces and nephews, who were raised as her children: William (Sherry) Doty of Atoka, Rebecca (Dwight) Hordyk of Puryear, with whom she lived, Cindy (Richard) Rector of Memphis and Tim Armour of Cordova;
Two great-nieces and a great nephew: Tammy and Heidi Hordyk of Puryear and Jamie (Donna) Rector of Cordova; a sister: Mary Virginia (James) Armour of Cordova; and a sitter: Susan Cross of Henry.
She also was preceded in death by a sister: Marjorie Doty.
