AMOS, Dorothy Elizabeth
91, of Tampa, was called home to be with the Lord on Aug. 20, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis Gray Wilbur and Lona Earle Strahan Wilbur. Dottie is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert; her daughter, Lona Elly; and son Robert Jr.; seven grandchildren, Walter, Jonathan and Christopher Elly, Samuel, Emily, Michael, and James Amos; one great-grand-daughter, Sasha Elly; two brothers, Dr. Holmes Otis Wilbur and Otis Gray Wilbur Jr. Born in Baltimore, MD, Dottie moved to Tampa in 2005. Prior to moving to Florida, she was a resident of Towson, MD for 35 years. As a young woman, Dottie's passion for music led her to study piano for eight years at the Peabody Institute. She graduated from the University of Baltimore Law School in June 1938 and was admitted by the Maryland Bar to practice law in October 1939. As a lawyer, Dottie opened her own practice, later to be employed as a claims supervisor at the Maryland Casualty Company. She went on to sell real-estate in the greater Baltimore area for 35 years, and earned several sales awards. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Northwood-Appold United Methodist Church and later served as President of the Towson United Methodist Women. Dottie was active in the Northwood and Hampton Garden Clubs where she served both, as president. She also served as chapter president in the P.E.O. Dottie will be best remembered for her compassionate and loving spirit, her sense of humor, her commitment to family and her profound love of God. The family will hold a private memorial service at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
