Dorothy Mae (Snyder) Williams, 84, passed away November 13, 2009. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Elkin officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Dorothy, daughter of Maggie (Wingrove) Snyder and Donald Snyder was born in Moundsville, West Virginia on October 8, 1925 and she is the middle of 5 children. Dorothy spent many of her younger years in West Virginia and moved to the Des Moines area with her family in the late 30's. Dorothy attended primer school in West Virginia but graduated in 1944 at North High in Des Moines, IA. She lived in many different places before settling down to live in Fort Dodge, IA for 30 years before coming to Des Moines to be close to a daughter. In 1949 Dorothy met and married Clarence Williams from Perry, IA, while she worked in the canteen at the Veterans hospital. After becoming married Dorothy became a devoted housewife and mother.

She is survived by her five children, Donald Williams, John (Judy) Williams, Fort Dodge, IA, Robert (Amanda) Williams, Clare, IA, Cheryl (Norman) Harms, Omaha, NE, and Patricia (Jamie) Rowen, Des Moines IA. She has 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Elmer Snyder, Davenport, and sisters, Irish Hansen, Fargo ND, Loretta Brewster, Des Moines, IA and Helen Wyckoff, San Diego, CA. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Williams, a grandson, Brian Williams, her parents, Maggie (Wingrove) Snyder and Donald Snyder, and daughter-in-law Norman Williams.
