Doreen Wofford Ahrens, 20, died Saturday in an automobile accident in Las Cruces. Mrs. Ahrens was born in Silver City on April 28, 1961, the daughter of Hurshel and Sally Lou Wofford. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bayard and was majoring in Early Childhood Development at New Mexico State University. Mrs. Ahrens is survived by her husband, Steven Ahrens of Las Cruces; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hurshel Wofford of Bayard; two sisters, Nancy Helton of Buckeye, Arizona and Terry Hurt of Silver City; one brother, Petty Officer 1st Class Hurshel Wofford, Jr. of Beeville, Texas; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wofford of Eagletown; parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernst H. Ahrens of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Mr. and Mrs. Dee Cole of Bayard. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday in the Curtis-Bright Chapel with the Rev. Francis Roundtree officiating. Interment followed in Memory Lane. Serving as active pallbearers were Captain Robin Crouse, Captain Gene Gent, Sgt. Major Thomas Valadez, Mack Pattarozzi, Ronald Wofford and Richard Helton. Honorary pallbearers were Petty Officer 1st Class Hurshel Wofford, Jr., Jerry Hurt and Albert Gavaldon. Arrangements by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.
