MRS. RHODA D. ALLEN.

Mrs. Rhoda D. Allen, wife of Benjamin Allen, of New Woodstock, was removed by death December the 6th inst. This wife and mother was born in the town of Ostelic nearly 53 years ago. She was the mother of four children, three of whom survive her. One, a young lady of rare promise, was laid at rest only a few years ago, where now a loving and devoted mother lies by her side. Mrs. Allen and her family have resided in the village of New Woodstock quite a number of years, and her generous heart, and helping hands. have made her many friends. She possessed a very amiable spirit and manners, urbane and on account of these qualities of heart and soul, she endeared herself to all classes of society; consequently, her comparatively early demise brings a sadness and casts a gloom over family and community, that can well be likened to an eclipse of the sun, producing twilight, and imparting a somber hue, and maybe a mournful stillness, while nature seems pervaded with the thought, that a life has gone out, and a heart that throbbed sympathetically for the sorrowing, has ceased to pulsate forever.

Your usual correspondent was her youngest son, and he with the other members of the family, have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. For her absence there is no substitute; for the hearth, the home and the heart are bereft of her. There is but one mother, as she is the only being that the creator endowed with the elements of superior virtue, abiding affection and undying love. God bless the mothers and the homes that appreciate them.
