A memorial service for Alice J. Wolcott of McMinnville will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, with the Rev. Stan Mishler officiating.

Mrs. Wolcott died Feb. 21, 2002, in her home. She was 87.

She was born June 14, 1914, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of Robert Winchell and Edith Jane Hall Simpson. She was raised and educated in Pasadena, Calif. As a youth, she was an excellent swimmer and tennis player. She graduated from Long Beach Junior College in 1933.

She and Bruce Elliott Wolcott were married Feb. 14, 1937, in Long Beach.

After marrying, the couple moved to Canada and farmed for three years. They moved back to Pasadena in 1940 and to Yamhill in 1942. They settled in McMinnville in 1959.

Mrs. Wolcott worked for many years for the Hillary Insurance Agency in McMinnville. She enjoyed swimming, playing cards, reading, bird watching, gardening and playing piano. She played piano in the McMinnville Senior Center Tuesdays and Fridays for seven years.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Fredrick of La Pine, Donna Kilgore of Haines and Barbara Rappe of Richland, Wash.; a son, Martin Wolcott of Hebron, N.H.; a brother, Jack Simpson of Lakeport, Calif.; a companion, Roger Seely of McMinnville; 12 grandchildren and 27 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Edward; a grandchild, Jodi Kilgore; two grandchildren, Justin Schmidt and Brandon Fredrick; a brother, Winchell Simpson; and a sister, Dorothy Kumali.

Memorial contributions may be made to the McMinnville Senior Center or hospice in care of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
