Linda Jean Wood, 59, lifetime Muskogee resident, died early Friday morning at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Wednesday, December 22, 1948 in Muskogee to Buford and Virginia Jacobs Wood.
Linda grew up in Muskogee where she attended Pershing Elementary, West Junior High and Muskogee High School graduating in 1967. After graduation from high school, Linda attended Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, OK, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Education, graduating in 1971. She began her teaching career in Westville, OK where she taught school from 1971 to 1982, then later teaching at Porter Public Schools from 1982 until 2003 when she retired.
Linda was a member of the National and the Oklahoma Education Association. She was a lifetime member of Timothy Baptist Church, where she served as pianist and organist, Director of the WMU, Vacation Bible School Director, and faithful Sunday school Teacher for many years. Linda enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, cooking and photography, but grew to love raising roses of all kinds. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her dad, Buford Wood on August 16, 2007. Linda is lovingly survived by her mom, Virginia of the home; Brothers, Doug Wood and his wife Debbie of Durant, OK, Darrell Wood and his wife Beverly, and David Wood and his wife Kellie all of Muskogee, OK. 11 Nieces and Nephews, Keasha Newton, Matthew Wood, Jeffrey Wood, Joshua Wood, Jennie Parker, Ashley Wood, Jeremy Wood, Cassidi Leach, Jamie Wood, Justin Wood and Rebecca Wood; 7 Great-Nieces & Nephews, Celeste Wood, Cambrie Parker, Chandler Wood, Cole Leach, Kaylee Wood, Clay Leach and Case Leach and other extended family and a host of friends.
The family will greet friends, 2 PM to 4 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Timothy Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 1, 2008 at Timothy Baptist Church with Reverend Kelly Payne officiating. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with Matthew Wood, Jeff Wood, Josh Wood, Jeremy Wood, Justin Wood and Clay Payne serving as Casket Bearers.
