Virginia Woody Counts, daughter of the late Wythe B. and Minnie Parks Woody was born in Sugar Grove, Va. on October 16, 1930. She graduated from Marion, Va. High School, Emory and Henry College, and received an MA from ETSU. Virginia taught at Valley Institute and was the reading specialist at John Battle High School, where she was named Teacher of the Year on more than one occasion until her retirement. Virginia was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Bristol where she was an active member of the Shaw-Anchor-Friendship Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Counts, her step-son, Eddie Counts and his wife, Janice. She is survived by her brother, the Rev. Nelson C. Woody and wife, Ruth; her sister, Lois Woody Revie; her step-son, Marty Counts and wife, Chris; step-granddaughter, Katie Counts; three step-great grandchildren and numerous nephews, niece and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Bristol, Tenn., with the Rev. David S. Woody officiating. The family will receive friends 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
