Elsie Woody Barnwell, 88, of Crossville, passed away March 19, 2008. Funeral services were conducted March 21 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home, with R.K. Chadwick and Al Watkins officiating. Burial was in Green Acres Memory Garden.
Mrs. Barnwell was born March 1, 1920, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Hugh L. Woody Sr. and Alverta Shillings Woody.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing rook and crocheting, but most of all she loved cooking for her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Teresa Jane Cole (Roger), Ralph Barnwell (Lettie) Hershel Barnwell (Agnes), Edd Barnwell (Juliene), Frank Barnwell (Linda), Ernest Barnwell (Inge), all of Crossville, and Sevier Barnwell (Brenda) of Texas; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Hugh L. Woody Jr. of Crossville; and son-in-law, William Rector.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Blaine Barnwell; daughter, Barbara Ruth Rector; sisters, Rosa Dixon, Hagar Woody, Joe Brown and Lillie Conley; and brothers, Sevier Woody and Elmo Woody.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Barnwell, Ricky Rowell, Edd Barnwell II, Mark Cole, David Cole and Darrell Barnwell.
Crossville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.
