Age 92, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at her son's home. She was born June 10, 1920 in Robbins, TN, the daughter of Charlie and Minnie (Branim) York.
On April 16, 1939, she married Robert H. Ellis in Robbins, TN and he preceded her in death January 23, 1988. They came to Ypsilanti in 1950. Edith was employed by the University of MI for six years, retiring in 1967. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the OES Chapter #119 in Ypsilanti.
Survivors include: two sons, Harold (Brenda) Ellis of Roscommon and Edward (Sue) of VA; one daughter, Janet (Michael) Weaks of Roscommon; five grandchildren, Erik, Elizabeth, Steve, Aaron and Robert; five great grandchildren, Angela, Kerry, Kevin, Christian and Tate; two great great grandchildren, Isabella and Lucas; one sister, Omajean Harnest of OH; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett York and Robert H. York and four sisters, Annie Keeton, Addie Overton, Ruby Moffett and Hazel Bowling.
The funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Stark Funeral Service with Pastor Kevin Pierpont of Higgins Lake Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-9 pm Wednesday.
