Betty was the daughter of Jerry Cherry Young and Ula Rowan, was born 7 June 1921 at Lepanto, Poinsett Co Arkansas. When the Great Depression hit, Betty's parents moved to southern California, where she grew up. She married Haldane C Cummins at South Gate on 7 September 1940. He was attending dental school at the University of Southern California with Betty's brother Jerry. Haldane was born 25 March 1918 at Sitka, Alaska, son of Ralph Neil Cummins and Zilmah Vader. For years Betty and Haldane lived at Palmdale where he was a prominent dentist. They were divorced, and Betty then moved north to be close to her brother. Betty did bookkeeping and tax preparation. She died at Novato, California near San Rafael, where her daughter lives, on 6 July 1999; she was buried in the New Palmdale Cemetery (Desert Lawn Memorial Park), next to her brother Larry, and her parents. Haldane was then still living at Palmdale where he is retired. Betty and Haldane had three children: Neil C., Jerry Larimore, and Ann Robyn.
