Millie's father died before she was 10 years old and her mother Lena remarried to John L. Lewis before 1910. Millie's father was Robert Young and her mother was Lena Manning.

She was still a child when she married at age 14 to Walter E. Childers who was 22 years older then Millie although his age was incorrectly stated on the marriage license. She was married on 20 August 1914 in Jackson County, Arkansas.

Millie Jane lived in Texas for the last 36 years before her death, she died in the Terrell State Hospital where she had been a patient.

Her body was sent to Colorado where she had lived with her husband and children.
