C. C. Barringer removed to Quitman from Lafayette County. He first clerked in a store at Belen, and was a bookkeeper for some of the leading business firms of the county for several years. His ability and interest in public affairs made him a member of the county board of supervisors in 1904, and as assessor for the term of 1912-1916, he made one of the best officers the county ever had. In 1920 he won out in a keen contest with some strong opponents for sheriff, and since that time Barringer has turned his interest mainly to farming.
