At approximately midnight on Sunday, August 21, 1932, Officer Fielden Collins while at Seventh and Tennessee Avenue was struck by an automobile as he was entering his patrol wagon to take a prisoner to headquarters. He died two days later at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Hospital due to internal injuries and shock.

He had served with the Jefferson County Police Department for six years. He was single and survived by a sister and four brothers.
