Esther M. Gatschet, age 95 of Montrose died at her home. Esther was born September 17, 1918 to Albert Gwin and Florence (Pringle) Gwin in Telluride, Colorado. Her parents homesteaded on Specie Mesa, in the San Juan Mountains in 1917 and raised sheep. Esther's grandfather Nathan Gwin was renowned for his flock of Angora Goats he raised. Esther spent her childhood on Specie Mesa Ranch but graduated from Montrose High School.

She married Moral Gatschet in Montrose and he preceded her in death in 1974 in Montrose. A favorite past time was playing bridge. She was extraordinary at the game, as well as an excellent seamstress having learned as a child on a Treadle sewing machine.

Survivors include her longtime friend, Robert Jackson of Montrose; son Wayne A. Gatschet; daughter Linda D. Edgell, both of Montrose; two grandchildren Jaymi (Jason) Daugherty and Eric (Carma) Edgell; and five great-grandchildren Michael, Scott, Jillian, Harlen and Garret.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, brother Eugene Gwin, sister Ruth Davidson

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at Cedar Creek Church, on Townsend Avenue in Montrose. Inurnment will follow the service at Grand View Cemetery, west of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory, Montrose, Colorado.
