Passes Away At Home Here Sunday After Protracted Illness
Lawrence Ellsworth Gibson passed away at his home in Lafayette last Sunday morning, April 23, death following a long illness.
The deceased was born in Chatsworth, Illinois, April 16, 1896. Early in life he moved with his parents to Iowa, later to Missouri, and then to Nebraska. He formerly lived in Lafayette but returned to his Nebraska home several years ago, returning to make his home in Lafayette in 1920. May 24, 1903, he was united in marriage to Miss Mina McDongal, who survives him. To their union were born three children, all of whom have preceded their father to the home beyond.
At and early age he united with the Christian church and on coming to Lafayette placed his membership with the First Baptist church. He loved the house of worship and was a true and consistent follower of the teachings of his religion. In the home he was a devoted husband and father, ever being mindful of the needs of his family. He was also a faithful friend and helper to those about him and a large circle of friends and neighbors will mourn his loss.
Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah Sanford, of Holdredge, Nebraska: four sisters, Mrs. Jessie Stoner, Eaton, Colorado; Mrs. Phila Conrad, Omaha, Nebraska; Mrs. Minnie Meredith, Holdredge, Nebraska, and Mrs. Dollie Wheeler, Santa Fe Springs, California; also one brother, Albert Gibson, of Stockholm, Nebraska. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. George Bird at the Heiserman funeral home Tuesday afternoon after which the remains were sent to his old home at Scottsbluff, Nebraska for burial.
