OBITUARY: March 8, 1918. REMAINS BROUGHT HERE FOR BURIAL Sunday morning the remains of J. M. (Jack) Gilbert who died in Paducah, Ky., just after the holiday, arrived in McKenzie and were conveyed to Hill Crest cemetery on the Stephen's farm, west of McKenzie for interment. A number of the relatives and friends of the family wre present at the train and made up the burial party. The widow and children were present including Dr. Ben Gilbert, Jack, Gardner, and Marshall Gilbert and Mrs. Essie Carnahan [transcriber's note: probably Essie McCLANAHAN]. His fureral service had been conducted from his church in Paducah following his death and his remains placed in a receiving vault until the weather would permit of his burial here. At the grave Rev. J. W. Dishman read a few verses of scripture and offering a prayer, all that was mortal of J. M. Gilbert, the last of a large family of children, was laid to rest. At a later date we hope to be able to have an obituary prepared by an old friend of the Gilbert family giving more about the life of J. M. Gilbert.
